Hatha Yoga at Discovery Green Conservancy 12-24-2016

Patanjali's Yoga Sutras covered, 2.16, 2.17, and 2.18: Starting with 2.16 + 2.17, Patanjali advises that future suffering can be avoided if one does their current work and karma in the present, properly. We must follow through with our path and by doing so can alter our future and hopefully reduce any suffering to come. In 2.18 Patanjali, once again, redirects our attention to our true Self. This is a unique sutra because it discusses the ‘seen’ world. The ‘seen’ encompases all vabriation, stillness, and light waves, which includes all of the elements in nature. Our sense organs are for perceiving the external and liberation is the objective of the ‘seen’ world. This means that in every situation, object, and moment, we have the opportunity to experience liberation. To do this we must enter union (the state, our goal, Yoga) and find balance by dissecting each instance and object into its true properties (movement, stability, and color). This is helpful because if we are to distinguish the Self from the non-Self we must understand our senses and perception. Our Self is beyond the properties of the ‘seen’.
