Hatha Yoga at Discovery Green Conservancy 3-25-2017

Hatha Yoga at Discovery Green over the weekend was relaxing. Thanks for all of those who attended, I appreciate you very much! Below are the lessons we covered:

Yoga Sutra 2.39: This is the last of the yama's (the first limb of the 8, self-restraints), in which Patanjali reveals non-possessiveness. This is a healthy method for mental cleansing, removing material which is not a necessity in one's life. The objects also 'possess' us. Think about it, all that we own we want to keep nice, and when we are not around our objects we want to make sure that they are how we left them! The objects begin to weigh on our mind ('on our shoulders') even when we are not physically interacting with them. In time, we can remove things that we don't need to defend.

Yoga Sutra 2.40: This sutra marks the beginning of the second limb of Yoga, niyama (fixed rules). Physical cleanliness is up first. It is stated that when one is physically clean (through diet, exercise, and posture) one loses attachment to the body.

Yoga Sutra 2.41: From physical purity, the next step is mental purity. Just as we carry around physical objects, we too carry thoughts and memories in the mind. The key here is to cleanse that which is not helping you enter the state of Yoga. What is distracting your mental tranquility? Remove disrupting thoughts by changing the way you perceive them. When the mind is clean it is stated that one becomes ready for being cheerful, holding the mind still, and viewing our true Self.

Thanks for the support, feel free to comment and share. See you next week - Namaste!
